Western Oregon clearcutting
| Abstract/Description: | Clearcutting is a timber harvesting practice where most of the trees in a given area are harvested at the same time. Oregon law limits the size of clearcuts and requires landowners to leave trees in certain areas to protect rivers and streams and provide wildlife habitat. The remaining area must be reforested with young tree seedlings within two planting seasons. Skyline logging is a way to extract logs from a harvest operation on cables in order to minimize disturbance to the forest soil. |
