Search this Collection

The legislature passed the Oregon Civil Defense Act of 1949 as a response to world tensions and the need for a local defense force in the event of natural or man-made disasters. The act created the Civil Defense Agency, the Civil Defense Advisory Council, and authorized a number of mobile reserve battalions to be called to duty upon orders of the governor.
