Psychologist Examiners was created in 1963 to protect Oregon consumers of psychological services. The board determines if individuals meet the initial and continuing education, training and examination standards for licensure and issues new and renewal licenses to those who are qualified. The board develops policies and standards for professional practice and enforces disciplinary action against psychologists, psychologist associates and residents who engage in misconduct or are incompetent. It also issues civil penalties to individuals practicing in Oregon without a license or engaging in misrepresentation. The nine members of the board are appointed by the governor and confirmed by the Senate for three-year terms.
