Elk City covered bridge

The Elk City Bridge spanned the Yaquina River at Elk City, in Lincoln County, Oregon. The bridge was a 100-foot Howe truss span built in 1922 at a cost of $3,200. It had a low vertical clearance of just 10 feet, six inches. It is no longer standing, as strong winds blew it into the river during rehabilitation efforts in 1981. Subsequently, the structure was totally destroyed during an attempt to raise it., "A sign warns spooners not to park under the bridge."--back of photograph., Courtesy of State Library of Oregon.
