Last summer, ODOT installed Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons (RRFBs) at two crosswalks on US 97 (the Bend Parkway) where the posted speeds are 45 mph. ODOT determined that installation of RRFBs could be expected to improve pedestrian safety if additional features to increase the visibility of the crosswalks and the pedestrians and bicyclists using them were included in the design.
